The ASE Entry-Level Technician designation indicates the badge holder has demonstrated a satisfactory level of practical knowledge-based readiness for the workplace as identified in the related ASE Education Foundation (formerly NATEF) task lists.  The holder has demonstrated sufficient knowledge of the tasks required to successfully perform many of the service jobs in a subject area of the motor vehicle industry.  Multiple certifications indicate achievement in multiple areas of the industry.

The task lists and test specifications for the each of the eight ASE Entry-Level certification automobile tests are derived directly from the Instructional Standard for ASE program accreditation.

The task lists are listings of the tasks (competencies) involved in servicing and repair of various vehicle systems. Each question in a test is keyed to one or more of these tasks. The task lists are organized into content categories, which, along with the number of questions in each category, comprise the test specifications. Every form of the exams meets these specifications.

The ASE Entry-Level Technician – Automobile Brakes badge holder has demonstrated knowledge, by achieving a passing score, in the following areas of automobile suspension and steering service and repair:

  • General: Brake Systems Diagnosis
  • Hydraulic Systems Diagnosis and Repair
  • Drum Brake Diagnosis and Repair
  • Disc Brake Diagnosis and Repair
  • Power-Assist Units Diagnosis and Repair
  • Miscellaneous (Wheel Bearings, Parking Brakes, Electrical)
  • Electronica Brake Control Systems: ABS, TCS and ESC Diagnosis and Repair

To earn The ASE Entry-Level Technician designation, the candidate must achieve a ‘Pass’ result on one or more ASE Entry-Level certification tests. There is no hands-on work experience requirement, the credential is valid for two years and cannot be renewed.   The ASE Entry-Level Technician is encouraged to pursue advanced, professional-level certifications offered by ASE.
